Jack D. Tipton, age 70, passed away Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at Hancock Regional Hospital. Born on May 31, 1940, in New Castle, he was the son of Denver E. and A. Jean (Gurley) Tipton.
He graduated from Carthage High School in 1959, and served in the United States Army for 3 years. Jack was married to Patsy A. (Finch) Tipton. Jack worked for Wanamaker Post Office for 31 years before retiring. He also worked for Crystal Flash Gas Station and Classic Design Floral Shop in Greenfield. Jack was a member and Deacon of Cumberland Christian Church. He was an avid IU basketball fan and enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts.
Surviving him are his wife, Pat Tipton of Greenfield; daughter, Shari (Bruce) Bratton of Corydon; sister, Phyllis A. (Ralph) Newkirk of Knightstown; two grandsons, Erick and Evan; nephews, Chris and Brian; and nieces, Lori, Wendy, Melissa and Kelly.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Denver and Jean Tipton; and sister, Patricia Chapple.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at Erlewein Mortuary. Pastor Tom Scott will be officiating. Burial, with military rites provided by the US Army, will follow at Carthage Cemetery in Carthage.
