Prep roundup: Fishers ends New Pal winning streak

New Palestine’s baseball team lost 4-2 to visiting Fishers Friday.

The Tigers scored three times in the top of the seventh inning.

Both teams had just four hits.

Gavin Neal had two hits and an RBI. Jacob Morris had a hit and and RBI, and was the losing pitcher. He threw 6.1 innings and struck out three. Rigg Mahurin also had a hit.

New Palestine dropped to 15-3. Fishers is 16-7.

Cougars fall to No. 4 Mooresville

Greenfield-Central’s baseball team dropped to 8-8 with a 7-1 loss to visiting No. 4 Mooresville Thursday.

The Cougars had five hits, all singles, from Zander Cobb, Dylan Luther, Luke Sitzman, Jacob Welch and Karson Gantt.

Cobb scored the G-C run.

Greenfield-Central committed six errors and only three runs were earned. Reliever Shaun McFall struck out nine in four innings. Liam Flanagan fanned four in three innings.

Boys volleyball

Dragons win on the road

New Palestine’s boys volleyball team went over .500 mark for the season (12-11) with a 3-0 victory at Park Tudor Thursday.

Girls tennis

Dragons win at Greenwood

New Palestine’s girls tennis team swept host Greenwood 5-0 Thursday.

Four of the matches were straight set wins.

No. 1 singles players Kaitlyn Mitchell won 6-1, 6-0. No. 2 Bethany Blachly picked up a 6-1, 7-5 win and No. 3 Maizy Haynes was victorious 6-2 6-2.

At No. 1 doubles the team of Josephine Harvey/Emily Appleby won 6-4, 6-2.

In the tightest match of the night, the No. 2 team of Amelia Schneider/Riley Watts won 6-1, 6-7(6), 6-3.

New Palestine improved its record to 6-2.

Cougars lose to Eagles

Greenfield-Central picked up wins in doubles, but lost 3-2 at Frankton Thursday.

Softball

Royals beat tourney rivals

Eastern Hancock’s softball team won at Union County, in a matchup of two of the state’s top Class 2A teams.

The Royals, ranked No. 14, beat the Patriots, ranked No. 11, 4-0.

Eastern scored two in the first inning and two in the sixth inning.

Tatem Adams threw a one-hitter, striking out eight.

Lilli Ringer had two hits, including a double. Emily Hodges had two RBI and Brooklyn Willis had a hit, RBI and stolen base.

Marauders lose HHC contest

Mt. Vernon’s softball team lost 12-1 at Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Pendleton Heights Thursday.

The Marauders had three hits, including a fourth-inning solo home run from Easton Wampler.

On Friday, the Marauders lost 10-4, at home, to Westfield.

Graci Hines had two hits and two RBI.
