Prep roundup: Sullivan fans 14 in MV win

Cam Sullivan fanned 14 in six innings to lead Mt. Vernon’s baseball team to an 8-0 Hoosier Heritage Conference victory over visiting New Castle Tuesday.

Mt. Vernon pitching struck out 17 Trojans. In relief in the seventh inning, Andrew Boldt struck out the side.

Mason Meyer had a triple and drove in three runs. Josh James, DJ Scheumann and Gavin Joy each had two hits. James had a double and a triple.

The Marauders are 7-2 in HHC games and tied for first with New Palestine.

Mt. Vernon and New Castle play again Wednesday in New Castle.

Dragons down Delta

After Delta had cut New Palestine’s lead to 5-3 with a two-run sixth inning, the Dragons baseball team got all the insurance runs needed, and more, with a five-run seventh inning, in a 10-3 victory over the Eagles in the first game of a two-game Hoosier Heritage Conference series in Muncie.

New Palestine had 15 hits Tuesday and lead the HHC with a 7-2 record.

The teams will play Game 2 Wednesday at New Palestine with the first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.

Cougars beat Arabians

Trailing 1-0, Greenfield-Central’s baseball team scored six runs in the fifth inning and added three more later in a 9-2 Hoosier Heritage Conference win at Pendleton Heights Tuesday.

With the win, the Cougars are 6-3 in HHC games, one game behind co-leaders New Palestine and Mt. Vernon.

Brady Johnson went 2-for-4 with four RBI. Kirk Knecht had three hits, including a double and an RBI.

Landon Brooks threw a complete game, striking out five and scattering seven hits. He did not walk anyone.

The teams meet again Wednesday in Greenfield to complete their two-game HHC series.

Softball

Royals win 12th straight

On the road at Cambridge City Lincoln, Eastern Hancock’s softball team won its 12th straight game with a 12-0 victory Tuesday.

Sammie Bolding scored four times, had a home run and two RBI.

Pitchers Tatem Adams and Kenna Stewart combined on a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts. Adams threw four innings and struck out 11.

Emily Hodges had two hits, including a double and three RBI. Brooklyn Willis had a double and drove in two.

Eastern Hancock hosts Frankton Wednesday.
