GREENFIELD, IN

After putting up an extremely courageous fight with cancer over the last few years, beloved Roy E. Blessinger, 77, Greenfield, was called home to be with his late parents and sister. Roy passed away on April 22, 2024. Roy was born on January 18, 1947, in Rushville, IN, to Roy and Margaret Ellen (Benfield) Blessinger. He is a 1965 graduate of Carthage High School. On September 2, 1966, he married the love of his life, Janis Kay Petry.

Roy was a romantic at heart and loved to spoil his wife with flowers, love notes, scavenger hunts around the house, compliments, and overall support. In their younger years, they were both volunteers at the Greenfield Boys Club. Roy belonged to many organizations, including JayCee’s of Greenfield, Pioneer Club, and NMLRA. He also belonged to the IBEW as well as Bear Force (security) overseeing numerous concerts and sporting events. In his free time, he enjoyed cheering on the Cubs and all motorsports, garage saling, riding his Harley, and oil painting and airbrushing. But Roy’s highest and brightest glory in life was being able to love and support his wife, children, and grandchildren. He would never miss an opportunity to be with them. Roy worked as a machine operator with Western Electric for 20 years, Brookside for 10 years, and IAF for an additional 10 years. He retired in 2007.

Roy is survived by his loving wife Janis of 58 years; their children, Roy M. Blessinger and April (Kevin) Keffaber; granddaughters: Hanna (Daniel) Chew, Jessica Blessinger (Michael Visnich), Paige Gant (Gage Klenotic), and Reagan Gant; and great-grandchildren: Tessa Chew, Corbyn Chew, and Kinley Chew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carolyn Mohr.

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:55 a.m. at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, with the funeral service immediately following at 11:55 a.m., officiated by Roy’s sister-in-law, Elizabeth Petry.
