Weekend Girls Track and Field Roundup: Marauders win Guerin Invitational

Mount Vernon’s girls track and field team led a strong showing of Hancock County squads at Saturday’s Guerin Catholic Invitational.

Mt. Vernon won the 11-team event with a score of 136, two more points than runner-up Hamilton Heights (134). Greenfield-Central placed third with 92 points. Eastern Hancock was sixth with 44.

All three schools had individual champions. County competitors won seven events.

Mt. Vernon’s group of Makenna Laffey, Kendall Cagnet, Lillian Quinn and Hannah Hauser won the 4×800-meter relay with a time of 10:44.23. Hauser and Laffey also had a 1-2 finish in the 1600-meter run, with Hauser victorious with a time of 5:34.70.

Greenfield-Central’s Savannah Lake won both the 100-meter dash (12.50 seconds) and 200-meter dash (26.18 seconds). Madelyn Mies was the winner in the pole vault at 9-feet, 6-inches.

Eastern Hancock freshman Bella Sotelo swept the hurdle races. She won the 100 in 15.22 seconds and the 300 in 46.71.

All three schools had their share of second- and third-place finishes.

Mt. Vernon finished second and third in the 100 and shot put. Londyn Floyd was runner-up in the 100 with a time of 13.08. Molly Worth was third in both the 100 and 200. Ayana Moore was second in the shot put at 34-feet, 2-inches. Alonah Savage was third at 30-11.

Mt. Vernon’s Marissa Miner was second in the long jump (15-7) and third in the 300 hurdles (50.19 seconds). MV’s Laurel Hoeppner was third in the high jump (5-1).

Hoeppner finished one spot behind Eastern Hancock’s Ellie Meyer, who cleared 5-2 to place second.

Greenfield-Central added runner-up finishes in the 400 from Madelyn Bowman (1:05.12) and 300 hurdles from Addison Buckley (49.54 seconds).

G-C, MV runners compete at 3200 showcase

Greenfield-Central and Mt. Vernon had runners at Friday’s Carmel 3200 Showcase.

G-C’s Josie Kinnaman ran an 11:34.19, giving her the top 3200-meter run time by a freshman in school history. Lexie Copeland ran a 12:06.86, the best-ever time for a G-C junior.

Mt. Vernon’s top time came from Julia Iserloth in 12:18.23. Emma Gale ran a 12:34.72.

Dragons beat Arabians

In a dual meet Thursday, New Palestine’s girls track and field team defeated Pendleton Heights 57-30.

The Dragons won 11 events, including a sweep of the 4×100-meters (51.79 seconds), 4×400 (4:24.67) and 4×800 (11:53.8) relays.

Abby Journay was an individual double-winner by finishing first in both the 400 (1:01.19) and high jump (5-feet, 2-inches).

The Dragons swept the sprints, too. Along with Journay in the 400, Reagan Seal won the 100 (14.31 seconds) and Rylee Hurst won the 200 (26 seconds).

Evelyn Kell added a victory in the 3200 (13:15) and Alaina Doran won the 100 hurdles (17.82).

Joining Journay as field event winners were Rebecca Johnson in the pole vault (9-feet, 6-inches) and Cadyn Brown in the shot put (30-1.5).
