NineStar earns award for tasty water

GREENFIELD – NineStar Connect of Greenfield won a regional award for “Best Tasting Water in Indiana”

The Alliance of Indiana Rural Water hosted a conference March 14 in French Lick. Participating water samples were judged on clarity, odor and taste. NineStar won one of four regional awards and will progress to a state-level competition. The final showdown will occur at the Alliance of Indiana Rural Water’s fall conference in Fort Wayne in October.

The Alliance of Indiana Rural Water is a non-profit membership association with more than 1,000 water and wastewater systems.

Volunteers needed for nature event April 27

GREENFIELD – A weed wrangle is coming up at Thornwood Nature Preserve, and volunteers are needed to rid the park of garlic mustard.

The event is at 1 p.m. April 27 at 1606 S. Morristown Pike, Greenfield. It’s organized by the Hancock County Master Gardener Association and the Hancock County Soil and Water Conservation District.

Bring gloves and dress for the weather. While pulling the invasives, participants will recognize the native plants springing up as they bloom in their habitat. Elaine Whitfield, a master gardener; and Jenni Leary, master naturalist, will lead a wildflower identification walk to see the full spectrum of the spring flowers in bloom.

The mission is to increase knowledge and awareness about the threat that invasive plant species have on the environment. For more, call Hancock County Purdue Extension at 317-462-1113.

Mack named to advisor list

GREENFIELD – Michael Mack of Greenfield’s Edward Jones was named a Best In State Wealth Advisor by Forbes for 2024.

This is the third time he has been named to the list. Edward Jones is a financial services firm in the U.S. and through its affiliate in Canada. The firm has more than 19,000 advisors that serve more than 8 million clients.

Recycle event April 27

GREENFIELD – Recycle hazardous waste, tires, electronics and more in an upcoming event hosted by Recycle Hancock County.

The spring collection event is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27 at Elanco, 2500 Innovation Way, Greenfield. Cost is $5 per carload for hazardous waste, $5 per carload for electronics plus additional fees for TVs and monitors; $3 per box for document shredding, $4.50 for tires with the rim off, $5 for tires with the rim on; and $1 to $5 for latex paint. Cash and credit card are accepted.

“Grease” coming to MVHS

FORTVILLE — “Grease” is the word at Mt. Vernon High School this month.

The musical performance of “Grease: School Version” is April 25-28 at the MVHS theater. Show times are 7 p.m. April 25; 7 p.m. April 27; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. April 27; and 2 p.m. April 28. Advance tickets online are $16 for adults and $12 for children 18 and younger. At the door tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for children. The production is recommended for ages 6 and up.
