Chuck Wells, vice president and group publisher for AIM Media Indiana, parent company of the Daily Reporter, has announced his resignation effective Dec. 21.
Wells, of Columbus, and his wife, Suzanne, plan to acquire a business there that he will direct on a full-time basis.
Wells, 47, joined Home News Enterprises, the predecessor company to AIM Media Indiana, on Dec. 15, 1997, as commercial printing sales manager for the Daily Journal in Franklin. He subsequently served in three advertising leadership roles — classified advertising manager, retail advertising manager and advertising director — all in Franklin.
In July 2007, Wells — then 36 — was promoted to publisher at The Republic, the company’s flagship publishing operation in Columbus. Two years later, Wells was promoted again to group publisher, overseeing the company’s south central Indiana daily and non-daily publications. He became publisher of the Daily Reporter in 2012.
Wells currently oversees four daily newspapers: the Daily Reporter, The Republic, the Daily Journal and The Tribune of Seymour, as well as the weekly Brown County Democrat, The Jackson County Banner, the Times Post of Pendleton, the Fortville-McCordsville Reporter and the New Palestine Press. The company also has a digital marketing services division, DigitalAIM, a magazine and special publications division, plus affiliated websites.
A search for Wells’s replacement is under way.
“This is a very bittersweet moment for all of us at AIM Media Indiana,” said Jeremy L. Halbreich, chairman and CEO of AIM Media Management.
“Chuck has been a highly valued colleague since we acquired these publishing businesses over three years ago. He is a strong leader, thoughtful mentor, and a caring and considerate individual who always kept the best interests of the communities we serve in mind,” Halbreich added. “He has become a dear personal friend, and we are very happy for both he and Suzanne in finding a new, exciting career they wish to pursue.”
